Student-proof walls in Zwolle apartment complex

The problem

Near to the centre of Zwolle, the former offices of the Rijksgebouwendienst at Veemarkt are being converted into a modern apartment complex for students. Light panels were required to partition the apartments which met high standards in terms of soundproofing and fire resistance.

The solution

In total, FAAY has supplied 1128 m2 of home-separating walls, type IW148 and 368 m2 partition walls, type VP54 Light. The 40 cm wide and 54 mm thick VP54 panels have a plasterboard surface and a solid core of flax straw. Manageable and light yet student-proof. The home-separating IW148 is composed of two panels of VP54 with an anchorless cavity of 40 mm, filled with rock wool: fire-resistant for 120 minutes and with excellent acoustic insulation. The reduced weight is not the only benefit. The panels have much smaller bevelled edges, creating narrower joins between the panels. Using FAAYFILLER®, filler which hardly settles, a Light wall can be finished much more quickly and smoothly.
